The Casa Colonica
(max.4 guests)
This independent accommodation on two floors was once the “padronale” part of a traditional rural farmhouse, later transformed into a villa in the Leopoldine style. Dating from the late 18th century, the entire building has been transformed for modern living, respecting the original architectural layout and details. The large garden, furnished for relaxation and leisurely meals, offers a 180° panoramic view over the Valdarno and its breathtaking sunsets.
2 Bedrooms, 1 huge Bathroom, Sitting/TV room, Dining/Living room, fully equipped Kitchen – over 145 square meters (c.1450 square feet) with two independent entrances and private garden. The house is non-smoking. Animals are not allowed (sorry, not even service animals). The appointments avoid the most common allergies.
WiFi + Parking gratis.
Air Conditioning / Heating (split system heat pumps).
Il PoggioloTuscany is pleased to provide an allergy-sensitive environment for guests. While each person’s allergies are very specific, we have tried to eliminate the most common allergy triggers, beginning with a no-pet and no-smoking policy.
Inside, dust and molds are everyone’s biggest enemy. That is why there are no dust-catching drapes but rather traditional wooden shutters (scuri) on bedroom windows. The floors are a beautiful Italian tile. Rigorous cleaning standards are applied before and after each rental. The beds are all orthopedic (wooden slats) and the pillows, covers and mattresses are hypo-allergenic
A country house is by definition in the midst of nature, where allergens are hard to control. Nonetheless, on our property we have avoided planting the most common allergy-producing trees, bushes, and flowers (such as mimosa).
For those with special diet requirements, a variety of alternative foods – such as milk substitutes and gluten-free products – are easily available in the area.
NO ANIMALS
We love animals, but due to the allergies of many of our guests (as well as our own), we must maintain a strict no-pet policy.
Guests arriving with pets will not be permitted to check in and will forfeit the entire rental fee.
NO SMOKING
It is also required that there be no smoking inside the buildings. Each accommodation has a garden and lots of space outdoors where it is possible to smoke in comfort.
Ground floor
The garden entrance gives onto a sitting room with sofa, uphosltered armchairs and wicker armchairs, SAT T.V. + HDMI cable, bookshelf with guidebooks, recreational reading (stairs to top floor also start here).
The sitting room leads into a big “country kitchen” with a barrel arched brick ceiling, extendable table and chairs, chestnut cabinetry and granite counter. There is 5-burner gas stove with electric oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The kitchen is extensively equipped with pots and pans, cooking utensils, plates, dishes, and tableware.
Through a gracious archway you will find the dining/livingroom, and second entrance giving onto a graveled area. There is a large walnut antique dining table (seats 6) and plenty of chairs and wicker armchairs to spend pleasant evenings dining, planning jaunts and reading.
Top floor
The stairs to the top floor are sculpted in local stone (pietra serena), with a barrel-vaulted arch. At the top is a beautiful and sturdy child gate (made by local carpenter) that can be closed for the safety of small guests and sleepwalkers. Upstairs you will find a twin bedroom and double bedroom with beamed ceilings, antique furniture, bookshelves full of Italian-themed recreational reading. Writing desks and antique prints make each room unique. The double bedroom has wicker armchairs for quiet moments. In the corridor, a long cabinet with games and baby-bed bedding. The huge bathroom with tub/shower is also located on this floor, with a large cotton rug for morning yoga.
Air Conditioning / Heating (split system heat pumps). Bedrooms can be made totally dark with inside shutters. Fans provided in all rooms in summer. All windows have screens and outside shutters
Guests are welcomed to il Poggiolo with a complimentary “Welcome Basket” containing some light refreshments. Put your feet up, uncork the wine and enjoy the view before unpacking.
The nearest user-friendly supermarket, with quality local produce, fine cheeses, cured meats and Tuscan wines, is just a few minutes drive away (directions provided in the green “Welcome Book” on the Kitchen table). You will also find practical tips about the house, things to see in the area, our favourite local restaurants, gelaterie (ice-cream parlours) and places to buy wonderful schiacciata bread.

Panoramic Garden
The garden measures over 200 square meters and is furnished with tables, chairs and lounge chairs.
Large shady trees and a hammock. To be enjoyed at all hours of the day, the panoramic view ranges from the Apennines to the East, the Valdarno to the N.W., and the Chianti hills to the S.W. In the evening, the blue-violet hues of the hills look exactly as they did when Leonardo painted his historic landscapes. At sunset, the sky becomes a dramatic canvas.
Do not miss the spectacle!
